About Our School
Students and School
Telopea students are from diverse backgrounds, currently approximately 70% of students come from Non English speaking backgrounds and a diversity of cultural groups with our largest group from Korean backgrounds.
Telopea Public School prides itself and students for their caring and cooperative behaviour which is characterised by the inclusion and support offered by all students to each other and in particular to newly arrived students in the school.
All students respect senior student role models and feel secure, safe and valued in our learning community. Due to the redevelopment of the suburb by the Department of Housing our student enrolments declined to a low of 44 at the commencement of the 2011 school year but were increased to 53 by February 2011. Currently 61 students are enrolled at the school with Hume Community Housing who in 2012 will manage housing placements in Telopea projecting further increases in 2012 of an additional 30-40 students, bringing our anticipated enrolment in term 4 to 90-100 students.
Although we are a small school the staff at Telopea Public School work dilegently to ensure students have access to not only exemplary academic programs but also access to Creative and Performing Arts Programs and Activities, a full range of fitness and sporting programs and access to music tutition in guitar and keyboard. In 2012 students will be offered a gymnastics program in term 2 (Fitschool), an AFL program (AFL NSW & ACT) in term 3 and a cricket program (Cricket NSW) in term 4. The school competes in Zone and District athletics events.
